Go and whinge somewhere else, cockhead. Do you want everything for nothing, do
you? You obviously could not be bothered reading what hardware upgrades you
needed.
Stop wasting time and space here!

so you want to blame microsoft and vista because you have a piece of junk computer.

maybe your parents need to change your diaper and put you back in the crib so you will leave the adult toys for the adults.

"upgrading" to Vista from XP was the worst mistake I could have made. There
was nothing wrong with XP.. I just thought Vista looked cool and would be
fun! Wrong!! Not only did I have to buy another stick of ram (2 512's), it
was the wrong kind. So I had to exchange it for the right RAM. Then I
installed Vista on top of XP (not the clean install but the upgrade). Nothing
but problems. The upgrade advisor said everything was hunky dory and ready to
go with Vista, yay! But, no. So I re-installed Vista, CLEAN, this time,
wiping everything out on the C drive (all my music and pics and stuff are on
D which I unplugged just in case). Still having issues. Mostly the screen
freezing up, usually in patterns of purple and yellow lines. Or blue screen
of death every 15-20 minutes. I'd have to reboot at least 40 times a day. I
kid you not. Microsoft technical support was not very helpful (yeah, called
them 6 times, they said they didn't know what to do for me). Finally went on
here and found some useful info (my video card sucks so thats why it kept
freezing up and giving me blue screen errors). Now, evresince decreasing my
video card hardware acceleration, its been better but I still get at least
one blue screen a day. Maybe I will get a better video card soon if I have
money. I have bills to pay, ya know? But for now I guess this will do. Then
comes the problem with aero. Thats why I frickin BOUGHT Vista. It looked rad.
But then I find out, after MUCh searching, that the reason why there is only
the 'basic' vista theme, is because my hardware sucks and my videocard can't
handle the aero theme. Well that is just fine and frickin dandy. So how about
lets install some third party .msstyles to spice this party up? OH NO NOT
VISTA!! Now they are .theme files, not .msstyles files, and you can't find
.Theme files anywhere on the internet. So I am stuck with one, basic, drab,
crappy Vista theme all because the upgrade advisor never told me that my
hardware would suck and prevent me from having an enjoyable vista experience.
Vista, I hereby pronounce you as the worst operating system peice of crap
*ever*. I wish I could go back to XP but all I have is the recovery disc that
came with my computer. The computer already had XP installed. Crap. Well
maybe I'll spend the $100 and get a new copy of XP. I bet I'll be 100%
happier. Vista has been nothing but a nightmare and I *HATE* it with a
passion. :(
Thanks for letting me rant. The end.

Glad your rant is over. Vista sucks because everything you did is wrong -
beginning with installing Vista on a computer that could not handle it.

another person that wasted his money without doing any research

Hey next time, just send me the money

Define "research".

Does using the Upgrade Advisor and MS's HCL (Hardware Compatibility List)
count?
I did both, and still wound up with a video card, sound card, modem & card
reader all rendered useless when both forms of "research" claimed they were
fine.

I had one MVP here go so far as to tell me that the UA "never actually
claimed my hardware would work right NOW, but rather it MIGHT in the
future." <snicker>

I'm still looking for that detail in the instructions, since it must be in
there, ...right?

gotta love MS Marketing.

Hi Bek, I live in washington (olympia) as well.

To be honest the upgrade advisor exists to warn of incompatibilities.

It's not designed to find faulty hardware or deal with poor drivers from 3rd
party manufacturers.

If you're having hardware issues Vista is hardly to blame.

Well if you can't trust MickeyMouse's "upgrade advisor", who can you trust?

I'll just drive down to Microsoft and strangle someone.

At any rate, whether I am a seasoned computer geek or a beginner, it
should not have had to have been this hard. I mean, shouldn't the upgrade
advisor have warned me that my video card was a total crap bag? Yes! Alas,
it did not.
You shouldn't be judging your video card that roughly. Who says your video
card is crap? Just because a crappy toy operating system that is so poorly
written that it demands the "latest and greatest and priciest" hardware to
overcome its bloatware?

As you've seen, you've not gotten much sympathy in this newsgroup composed
of Fista Fanboys, who can see no wrong with Microslop or its piece of junk
new 'operating system'. In true MickeyMouse fashion, it's always - blame
the end-user for the problems he/she encounters. You're either not smart
enough for this gang or else too lazy to do your homework. When "soccer
moms" are mentioned, their retort is that a "soccer mom" wouldn't be
interested in upgrading in the first place. They show no end to their
elitist and snobby attitudes.

May I suggest that this is a good time to get off this ridiculous bandwagon,
driven by Microsoft's insatiable appetite for more or your money. Take a
look at an intelligent operating system like Ubuntu. You can get this
operating system for free. It can be a LiveCD distribution that will allow
you to boot your computer from a CD and see how well your hardware will
work with it before committing to an install on your hard drive. If you're
like the vast majority of computer users it'll give you all you need and
will work with your "old and crappy video card". Another big plus is that
if you start using Ubuntu, you'll turn to a community of users who treat
each other with respect and not blame the end-user for the problems they
may encounter.

Just take your meds and you will feel a lot better.

You sound like such a controlling person. I should report you to DOCS.
Stiffling your non existent children's sense of indivuality and denying
them the ability to learn responsibility. Men like you should be in
gaol. And I hope you never see these children receive a top award when
[not] graduating from uni. I hope you don't get to give away your
daughter at her [not] wedding.

Your children are strong. Remove you from their [not] lives and their
[not] spirit will overcome the damage people like you do.

It's time for my inner grandmother workshop.

You aren't going to go out dressed like that, are you? When I was young
my father died, so I left school at 3 and got 5 jobs and woked 25 hours
a day so I could give all my money to my mother so my mother, my
brothers, and my sister all had enough to eat. Oh my, you wouldn't do
something like that, would you? In our day we had to work really hard.
You have it so easy.

[ps sorry for long sentence above. Artistic considerations of paragraph
contruction were considered more important. Hope you kept breathing
while reading it]

because I have such strong feelings for you. You make me feel ... so
strange. I dont have a daughter, but if I did, I would invite you to
stay away from her. No offense. You sound a little too kinky for
taking out my son or daughter, as the case would be. Sacrificing on
altars is just not something I would let you entice my children into
doing. Sex sounds rather bland after that scenario. Just
remember...Follow the yellow brick road, follow the yellow brick

The treat each other with respect but target women with computer problems.
And when they win the woman's trust ... They don't call themselves a
community for nothing. And it's good for male bonding (or is it pimple
bonding) a large group of greasy haired pimples (after all they only get to
do it every second year) with a woman. They normally let her live and just
blackmail her with a video. But sometimes if she admits to using Windows
they go beserk, screaming "take this bill gate's concubine" as they insert
snapped in half Vista DVDs.

I protest that remark, no one is being sexist here, I resent that statement
by you and bek. Come on everyone grow up. If you want to upgrade to a new OS
you must do your homework, many of us have posted many time that you must
make sure that drivers exist for your hardware you wish to install Vista on.
And more than once recommendations have been made as to the grade of
hardware you need to install Vista. With all due respect I do not have a lot
of sympathy for those who "blindly" upgrade to a new OS. This is no
different than the previous transitions from one OS to another.

I think that the responses on this thread are hilarious. I feel sorry for
the guy who complained. He used the Upgrade Adviser and it said that his
system was compatible, so he buys and installs Vista, and he never gets
past the blue screens as Vista constantly crashes on his suitable
machine. The Microsoft fanboys pounce on him and try to blame him for
his less than perfect Vista experience. Meanwhile, he is out of a few
hundred bucks. I think that he can use his recovery disk to reinstall
XP. I hope that he gives it a try to see if it will work. If it was me,
and I had gotten the type of response that he did on this newsgroup, I
would be giving Linux a try. You can at least try it out first with a
live CD and see if it will work with your hardware. You dont need a
faulty Upgrade Adviser. But I believe in choice. His hardware belongs
to him and he can do whatever he feels like doing with it. If his
hardware was working fine with XP, then there is nothing wrong with it.
But there is something very wrong with Vista, the little engine that
couldn't. The fanboys here did nothing to encourage, or help him out.
As for me, I seem to attract the closet psychopaths, who suggest that I
"sacrifice my daughter to linux". They definitely need to take their
meds, as scheduled and refrain from responding on this newsgroup while
they are high. Of course, if they do, they just increase the hilarity of
participating here.

I just noticed something in your post. You say that you added a stick of
ram. Please download the iso for memtest and burn it to a cd. Run
memtest and see if all your ram is good. You run memtest by booting from
the memtest cd. You may have a bad stick. I wish that I would have
noticed that sooner. It is amazing that none of the Microsoft fanboys
noticed that. They were too busy defending Vista.

Beer costs $1.00 or so. Is it compatible with me? Let's find out! :)

An OS is something you are going to use for everything you do with your PC,
every day. I didn't just rush out and buy the parts for my PC without doing
research, and they don't last as long as my OS. If I did that, I'd own an
Athlon 64 with 512MB of RAM, NVIDIA card, 500 GB hard drive, DVD-RW and a
minitower AT case with no fans and a 250 watt power supply. Problems? Oh
yes. Yes, most of the hardware is not a problem. But, I chose the wrong case
and power supply. It might run, but it won't run right. Is it the fault of
the CPU? Nope. It wouldn't matter if I was running Linux, Windows or MacOS.
It still wouldn't run right. I feel that if you are purchasing something to
use everyday, do some research on it. It's not the fault of the manufacturer
that you didn't read the specs first.

Wal-Mart had issue with returns of Doom 3 because people weren't reading the
system requirements on the top of the box. Seems they may have the same
problem with Vista.

Microsoft has even released the Upgrade Advisor to help customers with
finding out if there PC is going to work. Sure, sometimes it does make
mistakes (and it does need something to tell you if your video card will
support Aero Glass!). In my opinion, Microsoft has grown leaps and bounds in
the past year or so on the front of consumer support. Not only in the OS
arena. I've seen more Microsoft developers in the newsgroups, various
forums, helping out and trying to fix the problems and make a better
product. Same with FSX. They were in the major Flight Sim forums talking
about the product, giving tips, screenshots, and helping out.

My opinion on Microsoft has gone from evil corporation bent on ass raping
the consumer to actually a more positive one. I used to be pro-Linux, but
Vista is a damn fine OS (when it works on your hardware!).

If you need me as an outlet for you anger, be my guest. But maybe you should
think that you are not being constructive. Pulling the discrimination act
just shows how unhappy of a person you are, especially when no one was being

problems as well. I would recommend a psychologist though and maybe some
meds. Maybe you had a rough childhood. Anyway if you want to tell us about
your problems, well this is the wrong place. I could recommend a good
psychologist if you want. If you need some help with Vista we of couse would
be glad to help you. And your ranting and raving, well that is just great
entertainment, keep it up, we like being amused.

A psycho-rational response. My mum did this. It doesn't work with me.

If there are no drivers thenthere are no drivers so he should have bought
hardware that was supported. He should compain to the hardware mfg. Most
drivers MS writes 90% of them. The mfg just needs to do the last 10%
specific to their brand. But there is no money in drivers.

And installing a unix clone would mean one has to surrender rights to
pimplely faced unix clone nuts. Open Source license restricts what one can
do unlike an MS license. Only those who wish to adopt a evil political
agenda is it suited for.

I've written many public domain things (incl meeting manuals). Unix clones
are anti public domain preferring to restrict what people can do with a unix
clone.
