Vista can't copy files from network share on XPPro

Update
Dynamode 1000 and realtek RTL8169/8110 are the same ie 8169 chip.
Both Dynamode and Realtek latest drivers (although only advertised as for up
to XP) are the latest drivers and are installed on my PC. I have found
information on the internet which says Vista has drivers for and is
compatible with RTL8169.

On PC 2
When the Gigabit LAN is set to auto negotiate speed - problems with network
When the 10/100 LAN is set to auto negotiate speed - the network is OK
When the Gigabit LAN is set to 100 base full duplex - problems with network
When the 10/100 LAN is set to 100 base full duplex - the network is OK
When the Gigabit LAN is set to 100 base half duplex - THE NETWORK IS OK
When the 10/100 LAN is set to 100 base half duplex the network is OK


Conclusion the Realtek gigabit LAN drivers are no good for 1000 base and
are only good in 100 base if half duplex.

PC 1 has Onboard Intel Proset Gigabit LAN which has widely advertised its
Vista compatibility.

PC 3 has onboard dual nvidia Gigabit LAN which I have not looked into yet

Thanks for the NTFS clue. I am having problems copying certain files from an
XP laptop to a new Vista desktop I just built. I'm using Vista home premium
on the desktop, and both computers are NTFS volumes. They are part of an
ahhoc wireless g network and in the same workgroup. I'm the admin on both
boxes, and I can use the Vista machine to copy certain files from XP to
Vista, but it tends to choke on .exe files and gives the ubiquitous
"Destination Folder Access Denied" message. So I tested the fat32 fix by
connecting a Western Digital usb hard drive to the XP box, and sharing that
drive out. On the Vista machine, I found the share and was able to copy the
exe files! But the question remains, what is preventing Vista from copying
exe files? I'm not running antivirus software on my XP laptop or Vista
machine. I'm not running much of anything beyond firefox and media players at
the moment. I clamp down pretty hard on processes running in the background,
to the extent that nothing starts up when the machine does( suck it TSR's).
Any more ideas would be appreciated.

Not that it's any help to you but I believe some files are protected by
something akin to digital rights management. I'm sure someone here can say
precisely what it is. For example, I wanted to apply the Link Layer topology
patch from MS to my XP machines and went through the verification process
and downloaded the file. When I attempted to copy/paste it to my other nodes
to save time the file could not be moved. I had to, of course, go through
the verification and download process once for each machine in my home,
which was no big deal but that was the first time I ever saw a file I'd
downloaded refuse to be moved on my network.

Your a genious MDaniel. I too have Kaspersky 5.0 running on my network.
There is a setting under the realtime protection and computer scan tasks that
enables iStream. You need to shut this off and then run the ADS removal
tool. Works great. Here is the email from Kaspersky

The problem:

Users can’t copy from a network share from a Vista machine when the share
machine has KAV running on the PC.

The fix:

We succeeded in reproducing the problem by ourselves and added this into
bugs base.
Unfortunately we're not sure that it will be fixed in near future.
The problem is connected with iStreams feature in our 5.x version.

Workaround:
1. Disable iStreams. (both real-time and on-demand scanning)

2. Clear already created streams using klstreamremover utility:

This should not be an issue with version 6.0 as it does not use iStreams.
