Vista + Broadcom NIC stops working

Hello,

I have a Dell Opti 745 running Vista Ultimate, the IP Address is statically
assigned, and I'm connected to a Corp. network via Cisco Switch.

The problem I'm having is that the NIC will just stop working at random
times. Mostly, this will occur over night when I'm not using it. The only
thing logged in the Outlook disconnect from the Exchange Server, so I do know
the times it's occuring - but no corresponding System Event.

Anyone know if this is a Vista SP1 flaw? Or is there something I'm not
finding while delving through the Google results?

Do you have a USP - Uninterruptible Power Supply? If not, is it possible
that such interruptions may be power failure related? It could be a case for
a remote location, rural area. This is just a hypothesis.

You've got a serious hardware setup. Mine is somewhat similar with no Cisco,
I do have a DELL switch 10/100/1000. I don't have anything like this
problem. I have Dell Opti GX-280 x 2 & Dell T7400. I don't have SP1. I am
waiting for TRM.

Are you sure NIC stops working? Is it that you lose only Internet connection
or everything, including the LAN?

I solved this with a tip from MS Support. Open the Broadcom card's
Properties, go to Power Management tab & check "Allow windows to turn this
off to save power." Then after Sleep or Hibernation, Windows knows to wake
the card. Try it. It really works.

I've disabled this setting....however, sometimes this problem occurs while
I'm in the middle of using it. :(
