Vista? Anyone go back to XP?

Sorry, yes, I missed that. I thought it was boilerplate, like a lot of
people attach to their sigs, so I zoomed right past it.

Soundly refuted?

Yep, in spades.
Pimping ubuntu isnt refuting anything.

Considering that Ubuntu can't be pimped, you have no point.
How 'bout the tons of people emailing you about getting started with
ubuntu?
Doesn't say much for them...they either cant click on the ubuntu links
you trail behind you like bread crumbs.

They have questions which, if I can answer, I am happy to do so. If not,
I steer them to the proper forums.
Or they haven't mastered Google.
Keep at it though, Ubuntu Pimp...aka Alias

You have no argument, only insults.

Quite so, almost nobody uses Linux, thousands use XP, Billions have
switched to Vista and Frank is very happy with his Etch a Sketch now we
wrote Vista in felt tip pen on the "Screen".

It amazes me how these so called MS fans can openly criticize the
previous version of an OS as if it's a real piece of crap when in fact
the opposite is true just because MS have now released a new system that
still has bugs and huge compatibility issues with hardware that MOST
users of the previous system could not work around without new hardware.

By all means buy a machine that will be Vista compatible, if anyone can
tell you what that is (The Microsoft guide is mostly no guide at all in
my experience so best to cross your fingers) which means a decent memory
(2 Gig minimum, 4 will do not harm even if XP can't use it all) and a
good Graphics card. Good = the most expensive you can afford, not on
board GFX.

Then install XP while you can still get it on one drive and consider
Vista (But always keep the XP drive) when MS have actually finished
writing it.

I think you and I are on the same wavelength.

I plan to buy a machine from the Dell outlet, with Core 2 Duo,
probably an E6xxx, with 2MB ram, and a dedicated video card. (I don't
game, and don't really care about Aero). It's tough to get the new
machines with XP, and especially tougher when going through the Dell
outlet, as most of those have Vista already loaded. I just hate to
have to go out and buy XP to put on a machine that came with Vista. I
do have a retail version of XP SP1 that is not being used, but
installing that and doing the updates is not my idea of fun.

Ideally, I'd be able to get an outlet machine with XP, and load Vista
on a second drive to try out. I do have Vista Business (I'd prefer
Vista Home Premium for the dvd functionality) from a friend that
decided not to install it on him machine. I've already found, though,
that Nero 5, which I really like, isn't Vista compatible.

Hey charlie and michale...my post way so far over the top that I though
it would be quite clear that it was said tongue-in-cheek.
I guess it went right over your heads and but squarely hit that big
button both of you seem now to be wearing that says "push me"!
Frank

I got it. I laughed OL. <g>

Hey Frankie, you know this is fact because:

a. The voices in your head said so?
b. A little birdie told you?
c. You read it in tea leaves?
d. You have a crystal ball?
e. You just made it up?

Just listen to this psycho babble on and on. Billions and billions of
copies of Vista users?

The truth is OF COURSE people have tried Vista and not liked it or
found it didn't meet their needs. How many? Nobody knows. Should you
get Vista? Only you can decide. Generally IF you buying a new machine
with Vista pre installed it makes sense to get Vista if only it is the
latest version of Windows and is the future and what Microsoft will
focus on until the next "better" version of Windows. Like all new
versions of Windows Vista is ripe with all kinds of bugs and won't be
totally stable until after SP1 gets released late in the 4Q or early
in 1Q next year.

Yes, you're thinking like me. Vista is what Microsoft will focus on,
like it or not. It might just be time to 'move on'.

What's to argue?
You are an ubuntu pimp.
You go to Vista Newsgroups to promote ubuntu.
That is an ubuntu pimp.
You may not like the terminology, but it is what it is.
How Gaseous Gibbon working out?

True, you can't argue worth a damn.
You are an ubuntu pimp.

That would mean -- in your twisted mind -- that Ubuntu is a whore and I
am *selling* it. Well, it ain't a whore and it ain't for sale so you
lose again.
You go to Vista Newsgroups to promote ubuntu.

To help frustrated Vista users or people who are considering using
Vista, of course!
That is an ubuntu pimp.

No, it isn't. It's a noble act.
You may not like the terminology, but it is what it is.

And shows you for what you are.
How Gaseous Gibbon working out?

Never heard of it, sorry.
Bet you cant wait until Hemorrhoidal Hen is released !

Never heard of that either. Can you please keep your sick fantasies to
yourself? There might be children reading this news group or do you care?

You apparently have some need to attempt to discredit Alias. Why?

I don't need to discredit alias or you.
I am not the one resulting to insults and false allegations here, it is you
and alias.
You must have a low opinion of the others here if you think it isn't obvious
to them.
If
you're trying to project yourself as a reasoned debater you've fallen
flat on your face which is obvious to everyone. I guess you must be a
student in the Frankie Numbnuts school of stupidity. Yo seem to think
the more you lie, rant and scream the more creditability you'll have.

See, yet more unfounded attempts to discredit me for no real reason.
You really are being hypocritical about it too.
