Restore Vista Backup files to XP

I recently upgraded to vista. I have backed up my files using vista. I have
subsequently gone back to XP. I have the vista backup files on removable
media and wish to view them and or copy them to folders on an XP system.
Vista is no longer available. Can someone tell me how to do this?

Typically files backed up with one operating system are not usable in
another.
Backup is intended to restore on the same or similar computer.

You will need to restore them on a Windows Vista computer then copy
them to the Windows XP computer.

Vista backs up files in .VHD format which is only supported under 'Windows
Vista'. You will need to restore them on a computer with Vista installed
then back them up again using a burning program and copy the files over to
Windows XP.

Hello.
I bought changed desktop and at the same time from XP to Vista Business.
Worked fine, files transferred. Was unhappy with Vista, so moved back to XP.
Backed up in Vista Business. As I can not restore on the XP, I now try to
restore on a friend's Vista Home Premium. So far impossible, it does not find
the files to recover whatever I do. On the external HD I have the backup
files (104GB), consisting of one folder called "Catalog" (.wbcat) and the
other "Back-Up files..." (595 zipped folders)

I wonder if I have to borrow a pc with Vista Business to restore there... is
the backup function so differentiated between the versions of Vista? Should I
buy symantec software... any recommendation is welcome at this moment!
Thanks
