I'm getting...

OPXPApp.exe - Application Error
The application failed to initialize properly
(0xc0000142). Click on OK to terminate the application.

This comes up about every 15 minutes. It also seems to
reset my home page.

How do I get rid of it?

Thank you very much for trying to help. I've got to tell
you that I'm pretty much a novice. I only got past Start
and Run. It then gives me "Type the name of the program,
folder, document, or Internet resource and Windows will
open it for you".

By the way, I'm running Windows XP Home Version (which I
think is Version 5.1). Then it has Open: and a blank
area to type in info. I typed in cmd. I get a black
background screen that says C:/Document and
Settings/Owner>. Immediately to the right of that I
typed "del /s opxpapp.exe". It came back (next line
down) and states "Could not find C:/Document and
Settings/Owner/opxpapp.exe".

Then I'm stymied. What do you think?

I think you didnt play DOS 10 years ago! It is starting
the search (/s command) to delete (del command) from your
profile (default starting place for cmd). This will start
from c:\ (the "beginning" of the disk):

get back to cmd.

type this exactly:

cd \
del /s opxpapp.exe

it will take a while to execute. when its done you will
again see C:\> and comfirmation of delete (hopefully).

Wow, I thought it was going to work, but it came back
saying "Access denied".

After looking on another forum, they seem to think the
culprit is a Softex OmniPass program that may have been
damaged by malware (whatever that is). I did find Softex
OmniPass in my Program Files on C: drive, and there is an
OPXPApp.exe in with OmniPass.

I tried to delete just the OPXPApp.exe part and it
said "Access Denied". I then tried to delete all of
OmniPass, but it said "Deleting OmniPass could make some
programs not work. Are you sure you want to do this?"

That intimidated me, so I didn't do it. Do you think I
have just deleted it anyway?

Thanks

I did try to delete Softex OmniPass even after the
message that it could harm programs, but I got an Access
Denied.

I also read in another forum that I should turn off
System Restore and Restart. I was to then run Scan
software. I have Spybot, it found some things, but when
I told it to Fix Problems - it was only able to get some
of the stuff.

So I restarted, unchecked Turn off System Restore and I'm
back to where I was before.

Any help appreciated.
