The question was how do you turn off the virus software on windows? Mine is
under windows security center. There is a firewall I figured out and a virus
software that I can't seem to get turned off. There is also a automatic
updates section.

Your question is unlcear as there is no innate antivirus software in Windows
XP.
If you mean the security warning telling you that your Antivirus software
doesn't exist or is not up to date....

In the security center itself (by clicking on the thing that is warning
you..), select (from the left side) "Change the way
Security Center alerts me".. Act appropriately from there..

It is in control panel under security settings. It is called windows
security center. There is virus protection, firewall and windows update
sections. I can change the updates and the firewall, but I can't find a place
to let me turn off the virus protection.

That's because Windows does not come with any antivirus (virus protection)
natively. What antivirus software have you installed?
