The virus protection is in the control panel under security center. The page
says windows security center. On that page there is a firewall, automatic
updates and a virus program. I have been able to turn off the firewall and
change the update schedule, but I am trying to turn off the virus program,
can anyone help?

Why are you so intent on turning off all of your protection?

The Anti-virus program is usually loaded at startup into the system
tray at the lower right corner of your screen, right end of the menu
bar. Find the icon for the anti-virus, right click on the icon to bring
up the menu and click "Exit" or "Unload" or whatever your anti-virus
program uses.

It is always advisable to disconnect the computer from the internet
before doing this, however. If you need to install new programs, just
unhook the ethernet cable or turn off the wireless network. If you need
to work on network problems, disconnect your internet connection at the
wall. I have heard that it can take as little as 5 minutes for an
unprotected computer to become infected.

HTH.
