Virus checker in Nero 6

I understand there is a virus checker for Nero 6.

You scan before you burn your files.

I just wondered does this virus checker need to
be updated? If so, how to do it and how do I know
I have the lastest virus definitions to protect what
will be written or burn on the cd-rom?

Thanks.

Yes...i update it daily, or when updates are available.

I wonder why Nero includes this, it would be best if it just supported using
your current Antivirus program, I don't if I trust Nero the makers of CD
Burning software to detect viruses.... heh

If I not mistaken, Nero is using your system anti-virus (such as Norton
Anti-Virus) to scan files before burning.

If so, it makes no sense to use such an option as one should have, e.g., in
the case of Norton Auntie Virus, AutoProtection enabled in the AV software.
In that case, whatever Nero is doing is a waste of time.

If it uses my built in Anti-Virus software then why the hell do I have to
click Help, Update Anti-Virus scanner? If I'm using AVG/Norton/McAfee or
whatever it should do its own updating. That's what made me believe Nero
itself wrote an anti-virus program. If it was using my current one it would
simply ask for the command line to scan with, just as Winzip, Winrar,
Winace.. etc use.

When you click the Update Anti-Virus menu in Nero, it downloads data from
av.nero.com, which seems to be its own custom anti virus scanner, so yeah
its not using your built in one, its using some lame one Nero tried to
make... odd..

I cancelled the operation and it said "Sorry could not update Nero
Anti-Virus definitions"... so there's the answer. It does download and use
a Nero built anti virus program, when it should just use the current one you
have installed.

It doesn't use your installed anti-virus software. It uses a version of
DrWeb antivirus from a database on Nero's own FTP server.
I guess it is available on the principle that you can't have too much virus
protection.
