J

Janet

I started getting a message that my virus check engine isn't available and do
I want to open the message without doing the virus check. What's going on?
How do I fix this?

Contact your virus scan vendor; its their software giving you this warning
and it is their engine which apparently isn't available.
Note that there is no need to integrate your virus scanner with Outlook to
begin with.

While I'm not suggesting that this is your problem, the Conficker trojan does
disable AV engines and it was meant to start on April 1.

Janet, two of my pc's started getting the message that the message I was
trying to open could not be checked because the virus check engine reported
an error. Would I like to open the message without checking? Or, something to
that effect. One has the windows live onecare AV and the other has the highly
rated NOD32 by eset. I have flashed the bios on both systems as well. All
updates are completed and the same message pops up. Have you been able to
find a solution?

Uninstall your AV program and reinstall it without the mail scanning feature.
You will be just as protected and it won't cause problems in Outlook.

I uninstalled Antivirus (and haven't reinstalled it yet) but the problem
persists. Is there anything else that I can do to fix the virus check
engine? Can I deactivate the virus checking within Outlook.

If you truly uninstalled your AV program, I don't know how you could still be
getting that message. Outlook has no virus checking of its own.

Mary, I have went thru steps in my AV program (ESET NOD 32) to stop the
isssue as per Brian Tillman's suggestion to no avail. His remedy is not
working... The problem started April 1 and it happened on all three of my
pc's while using Live one car for AV right after a Windows update. I have
since changed to the NOD 32 AV and it has the same problem. Look in your mail
menu for a file designated (Infected items).

Mary,

were/ are you running Windows Live OneCare for AV? Have you been able to
correct the problem?

Brian,

I have the same problem on two of our laptops. Also began around 4/1. In
addition, after I close the initial message, I get an exception message from
Business Contact Manager.

I beg to differ regarding virus checking. i have revceived a message that
tells me the message is being checked for viruses by Outlook Connector. I
have shut down e-mail scannning on my AV (Verizon Security Suite) to no avail.

Janet & others who have experienced this difficulty please do the following:
Go to Microsoft and download the latest version of Outlook Connector (ver
12.1)
Save the file to your desktop for easy reference.
Click on start, control panel, add or remove programs, scroll to Microsoft
Outlook Connector, Remove.
Double click the New version Icon on your desktop and install. Viola!

Cut and paste into your browzer to go to the file on MS website
