Virtual Memory Low

I recently formatted my HDD and re-installed my copy of Win XP Prof Edition
EN on my P4 2 Ghz with 256 MB DDR.

After about 10 mins of logging in, my system becomes very slow and all
applications kinda become slow and stuck. Then I see this message saying
"Virtual Memory Low". I tried to reset the page file limit almost 80% more
than the recommended but still no change. I have also set my page file to be
erased on shut down.

I have never had this trouble earlier, but now its recurring and I don't
know what to do about it.

I really appreciate if someone could help.

Greetings,

You seem to be consuming more than 256MB of RAM. If I were save a little
cash and upgrade it to 512MB DDR.

Thanks and best of luck!

See my page www.aumha.org/win5/a/xpvm.htm and the Problems section.
This is likely to be one of the programs that is getting run at
startup, quite possibly some malware; maybe a program that purports to
manage or free up memory; maybe a regular resident like Symantec Live
Update or NAV 2004
