Viewing Notes on Laptop without audience seeing

I have read the Powerpoint menu actions (those not requiring purchase of
software) to allow speaker notes to be seen on my laptop, yet hidden from the
audience, but they don't appear to apply to my version of Powerpoint 2000.

All the notes listed here say to: Go to SLIDE SHOW >> SET UP SHOW >> check
SHOW PRESENTER VIEW.

The options listed under SET UP SHOW on my version menu does not offer SHOW
PRESENTER VIEW.

Any ideas? Is my only option to buy an add in?

I think the only versions of PowerPoint that support presenter view are 2003
and 2007 (Office XP may support it). My recommendation is upgrading to a
newer version of PowerPoint; you will have more options and be able to do
more with a newer version.

PowerPoint 2000 does support presenter view. See here for details:
