Why is it that MOST images display in web pages, but some don't? Sometimes
all I get is a tiny square with a red cross in the middle of it on the left
top side of the image window. I also cannot get flash player installed.
HELP! I've done all that security stuff in internet options, reloaded
windows xp, run registry and file diagnostics.

I had the same problem and found it to be caused by spyware software such as
Adaware.
Try disabling any programs that look for spyware while you surf and see if
it cures the problem.
If you find out which program it is you can adjust the settings accordingly
or contact their support team for advice.
Don't disable you're firewall or Anti Virus software though.

Pictures not displaying is probably due more to the website having
trouble than it is with your computer, or it is your connection if you
are on a slower connection it will take a bit for these pictures to
load and until they do you will get the dreaded red X. Also it might be
(and most likely is) due to the website designer not optimizing the
file size of their pictures. Alot of "web designers" think that by
making the picture physically smaller it will decrease the size of the
picture, all it really does is take a large picture with a large file
size and make a small picture with a large file size.

As to your Flash trouble where are you getting the plug-in from? You
should only be getting it from Macromedia. Unless you have a setting
that prohibits plug-ins esp Active X plug-ins you should not be having
trouble installing Flash and/or Shockwave.

I would seriously recommend looking into getting FireFox and using it
as your browser. It is made by Mozilla, it is free, and it is waaaay
more secure than IE. It also has an automatic pop-up blocking, which
let me tell you is FANTASTIC. You cannot understand the beauty of
pop-blocking until you use FireFox for a while then go and use IE again
ARRRGGGGHH. I only use IE now for testing when I make websites. It also
features "tabbed browsing" which means no more having 50 windows open
at once which can be aggravating.

Look into it you won't be sorry!

By the way the Flash player is integrated into the FireFox Browser
already!
Sorry for the longwinded reply.
Good luck and have fun!!!

I had the same problem-

Yes, it's a flash animation. And the problem occurs if the Flash ActiveX
control is set Kill-bit, or disabled via Manage Add-ons or via Policies.

Download the utility AddonConfigurator from here:
http://windowsxp.mvps.org/addonconfig.htm

Run the utility and then type the following CLSID in the Text box exactly

{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}
