view pictures and images

I can't seem to view pictures and images in my email (Incredimail) and
sometimes on a website. I get a frame with a red "x" or little red & blue
square in the top left corner. I have followed instructions from Microsoft
but they don't help. I have deleted temporary Internet files; check off
"show pictures" from my advanced Internet Options under Multimedia.
Right-clicked on red "x" etc. The instructions also advise to click Toggle
Images.exe on links toolbar. I don't have this option on my links toolbar.
I'm not even sure I have a Links toolbar! The other suggestion Microsoft
gave me was that some of my keys may be currupt and to edit my registsry. I
don't want to do this because there are just too many warnings about messing
up one's computer. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Links should be in the Internet Options menu. Regarding the images.exe
problem:

IE5 Web Accessories:
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/previous/webaccess/default.asp

For IE6, a minor problem is in Images List. You need to press F5 to refresh
the blank list.

This problem has always been there:
From a previous post by Ronnie Vernon MVP:

There is a bug in the web accessories.

To fix it, use Notepad to open ZOOMIN.HTM (found usually in WINDOWS\WEB ),
and edit it to read both image dimensions before setting any of them:

old contents:
....
h = parentwin.event.srcElement.height * 2;
parentwin.event.srcElement.height = h;
w = parentwin.event.srcElement.width * 2;
parentwin.event.srcElement.width = w;
....

new contents (the 3rd line in the fragment above moved up):
....
h = parentwin.event.srcElement.height * 2;
w = parentwin.event.srcElement.width * 2;
parentwin.event.srcElement.height = h;
parentwin.event.srcElement.width = w;
....

Do the same for ZOOMOUT.HTM.

I don't see anything about links under Internet Options. What is IE5 and
IE6? The link to Microsoft (IE5) is not able to open the page. How do I
find Notepad?

Oh, I haven't used IE 5 and 6 in a long time. Links are in "Favorites"
folder. In IE 7 they are in Internet Options > Toolbars.
What is IE5 and IE6?

Two versions of the default Web browser that comes with Windows. If your
computer came with XP installed, you should have IE 6.
The link to Microsoft (IE5) is not able to open the page.

And I should have checked the link. KB pages are dropped from time to time.
How do I find Notepad?

Start > Run > Notepad.exe
