Hi all,
Wondering if anybody knows a possible solution to my problem.
I'm running Windows XP Pro. I have an ATI 9700 videocard. About a year
ago, I reinstalled Windows XP to fix other unrelated problems. Here's
what's been happening since then:
Occasionally, my screen freezes up (no mouse movement or keyboard
entries are accepted.) Then after a few seconds my monitor goes black
then restarts. A message from the ATI pops up stating that the vidcard
came across an error. I'm asked if I want to restart my machine. If I
don't, the machine becomes sluggish and windows are stuttery when I
move them around and videos on Quicktime and Windows Media player won't
play.
Here's what I've tried to solve the problem:
1. Reinstalled ATI video drivers.
2. Installed a new ATI card (same type borrowed from a friend to see if
it fixes the problem.)
3. Swapped monitors (I have a dual monitor setup, but it happens on
one, the other, or both.)
Nothing has worked.
There don't seem to be any problems in the device manager.
It's been suggested I have a bad motherboard, bad RAM or spyware. I've
run spyware programs, but they didn't fix the problem.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Paul
