Video capture device not recognised

Hi, I'm trying to capture video using ieee / firewire connection on XP from a Sony DCR TRV 50 camcorder. I'm a novice I can find no recogition on the computer that the device is connected....ie Device manager. If i connect with USB I have no problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You might try the uninstall of all drivers relating to the USB and
Firewire. Then shut down computer for at least 30 seconds be fore
restarting. Make sure you either unplug the computer from the wall
socket, or at the very least make sre your surge suppresor on off switch
is turned off. That's if your computer is plugged into it. The idea
is to get any residual electrons that might be cruising around in Ram
hyperspace to disappear.

After all of this is done then plug in only your firewire connecting
cable and your camera. Turn on computer and see if XP does find
ADDITIONAL HARDWARE FOUND.
