No Video Capture Driver

Hey guys,
I know i have been reading same problem as i have but i wanna post this too. I have the ff: Sony DCR-PC 9 miniDV Camcorder, i.link cable (both 4-to-4 , 6-to-4 pins) and Windows XP, just bought DV Firewire Card (ieee 1394), and Ulead VideoStudio 7. Seems that xp can recognice the firewire but xp cant recognice the Sony cam because when i open MS Movie Maker, it says video device is none.

Again i installed Ulead VStrudio and when I try CAPTURING, it says no video capture driver or no device connected. Again my cam is on and it is connected but i dont know the problem.

Anyone? I would appreciate your help.

When you connect the cam and turn it on you get the xp ping?
Device manager shows no problems with the card?

I am having the same problem, although I am using Sony Hi8 analog camcorder. I cannot capture, obviously is not recognizing the camera. I know it works because I have captured video using other software and the connections are correct. I am using the svideo and audio hookups, not the 1394 firewire.
Thanks

The only driver you need for the firwire card if it's an ohci compatible
vard is the generic windows one.
Regardless of what capture app you use, if you just have windows open and
connect the cam you should get the ping. As you get no ping, I would have
thought it has to be a connection problem. Can you try the cables with
another pc and your cam to ensure thay work.

Thanks, Graham!

No it does not show xp ping of my camera when connected. I'm wondering
too. Device manager shows no problem with cards. I tried a lot a ways. I've
reformatted my HD and reinstalled xp and to my dismay i got the same
problem. I m leaning on installing Windows 2000 and see if it works---and
hopefully it will recognize my cam. As i have said when i have WIndows ME it
worked fine but Win Me really sucks in a lot of ways.
Or maybe i am just missing Sony's DV driver becuase that is what Ulead is
telling me. No DV driver but dunno where to get it. ANyone?

analogue capture is different to firewire, have a read of www.papajohn.org
and see the analogue capture pages.

There are four cables and connectors going in to the cam and if the one
sending the signal back to the cam is ok, then it may well show that, if the
signal from cam to pc is duff then you are stuck.

THanks again!

I would really like to try using another cpu to test if my cable works.
HOw about this, everytime i connect my camera to computer using the i.link
cable my camera screen shows DV IN. That means my cable is working, right?
I installed Windows 2000 and got the same problem. Used the same card,
cable, software(ulead) and it alway says "No DV driver". Or "no video
capture driver".

can you take the cam back to the shop and get them to connect it to a pc
with your cable to see if it works, it is not unknown to have faulty cams as
well.

That's a very small (and in my opinion) incomplete list. I have the
Panasoniv PV-DV800 which works perfectly... although it's not listed. A
friend has the PV-DV801, again, not listed but works fine.

I'd agree, can you not find a friend with a fully working system you can
check all your bits on?

Is it exactly the same, all the same hardware and all the same software
installed in the same order?
Unfortunately, all of these items can cause problems, and yes down to the
order in which software is installed can make a difference!!
Try speaking to dell about it.

My JVC is not on the list as being supported and it it doesn't work with

ok .. what software are you using .. my home built asus / athlon system
which is two and a half yrs old now, sees' my JVC dv camera
(gr-dvl1020ea).. and i use ulead 3 disk to capture the DV to the hard drive
and convert it to DVD .. I have also used other DV capture programs without
problems but have bought ULEAD 3 disk for authoring and am quite happy with
it. its not windows itself that will recognise it and download the dv .. its
though windows should see it as a device through your firewire card ,, but
ultimately its software that will transfer the
dv .. didnt it come with software ???

I must chime in.... I have a NEW JVC camcorder that my NEW Dell will
recognize, but will not let me download anything using the 1394 firewire. I
am finding out that Windows XP is not all it is cracked up to be! Something
is going to get returned to the store....
