VGA Silencer Problem

Cheesy

Hi all,

I think I've done something stupid whilst attaching an Artic VGA
Silencer to my Sapphire Radeon 9800 Pro (R350). Now I have to underclock
the memory to get rid of artifacts in ATI Tool. Beforehand I could raise
both core and memory some way using the regular heatsink and fan. I was
hoping to squeeze as much out of the card as I could before the release
of HL2.

At first I put too much of the supplied paste on, and since then I've
decreased the amount of paste but to no avail. I was wondering what
effect using some Artic Silver 5 and the original heatsink would have.

If it has been permanently damaged, I'd be interested in knowing when
any possible price reductions in the x800 Pro series may happen. I
bought the 9800 Pro six months ago and the price seems to be the same
now, so can I assume the price of the x800's will still be roughly £300
in six months time.

Thanks,

Rob.

I found some interesting info :
Wrenching the chip cooler off has, on many occasions, left the hopeful
card-modifier with a card that's been modified in a very permanent and
depressing way.

You might be ok with the original heatsink and arctic silver. Don't put too
much on the chip - Just a thin film.
