downloaded the latest from MS. When I executed, it gave the option to update
what I
currently had or to uninstall. I did an update. When I went to Help..about,
it showed
version 1.0.501

Did an uninstall, deleted the directory it left behind and did another
install. it still
shows 1.0.501

where is 1.0.509??

The download "server" is actually a worldwide system. It isn't unheard of
for there to be a synchronization issue--this stuff does take a finite time
to get synched across the set of servers.

Did the text on the download page reflect current dates and the text I've
posted in this group?

About the only advice I can offer is to try again at a later time/date.

Did you reinstall msantispyware.exe or msantispywareinstall.exe ?

the one with install is the new one.

In reply to John's question "microsoftantispywareinstall.exe

In reply to Bill's question, I don't remember the date published at the
site.

However, I went back and the date published was 2/16/2005. I downloaded it
again. When I ran it this time, it just gave a dialog that it was going to
do an update & click OK to continue. Did that and everything is okay.

Thanks John & Bill for your replies..Have a nice day

Jack--

I used the correct install executable and it doesn't make a difference. Do
you need to reboot because their install wizard doesn't indicate this. It
says you updated and you haven't. Also I used the latest download page.

I too used the msantispywareinstall.exe installer. It was
signed by Microsoft on Jan 27 2005. (Properties, Digital
Signatures tab). I still have the old installer around;
that one was signed by Microsoft on Jan 4.

But both of them install "Beta 1" v1.0.501, even on
systems that have *never* had any version of MS AS (or
Giant, or anything else) installed before. The version
stays at .501 even after reboots.

I have not tried the safe mode trick and won't; I'll wait
for an installer that works on its own!

Dan - I'd suggest re-downloading.

I just checked a download of the .509 version on my own machine, and the
signature date is February 10, 2005.

I would look for that date.

The binary at the download site was periodically updated as signatures
change, which explains why you have a binary with a different signing date,
but the same .501 build.

Chad--just to be certain, can you check the digital signature date on the
executable you downloaded? It should be February 10th, 2005, I believe.

The observed date depends on what timezone the user is in.
The digital signature is timed at 11 Feb 2005 04:20:19 GMT on my copy of
build 509.

Excellent point--thanks!
