Update to 1.0.509

It claims to be version 1.0.501. Automatic update says I
have latest version. I have tried downloading what claims
to be 1.0.509. It updates "correctly" but still says I
have 1.0.501.

What is the file size of the update you downloaded? It should be 6,526,608
bytes. If not, then your download is incomplete and I'd suggest you
download a fresh copy.

If your byte count does match the above, not sure. I read .509 in the
Help/About. Have you done a Restart since installing the newer one?

A restart as mentioned by Sky King could produce the answer you want!

Hope this helps.

Thanks for your suggestions. Tried them all but it still
thinks it's 501. Never mind.

.
It's the same on my XP Pro SP2 machine, update loads new
definitions (from 5687 to 5691) but not the software update
from 1.0.501 to 1.0.509. What is to do?

I finally got it to work by downloading a new version from
the Microsoft site. Strange as I did this before and it
didn't make any difference.

Suggest downloading again. From other threads here, apparently there was a
"glitch" in one of the MS servers and the newer version wasn't being
delivered. Seems to be all fixed now, so download and install .509 again.

Archie--I think what happened to you was that the download servers are not a
single unit, but a worldwide network of systems. In such a system, some
machines may lag behind in receiving the updated code. Additionally, some
ISP's run caching servers which can have the effect you saw. Glad you
finally received the correct file.

The new build is not being distributed via the software update facility--it
must be downloaded from the download center.
