ok.. extreeeeme blonde here... i have new laptop.. with of course vista on
it.. and i was not planning on relying on this lil lappy but.. my main puter
broke down and said enough dust and hair last week and is gone for a few
weeks... so.. i break out the lil lappy ... it wont run most of the stuff im
used to doing.. first... i decide to back it up .. because... im gonna go
places i did not plan on going.. like limewire... so.. anyways i back it up
and now.. i get a error messages saying my disc space is filled and i must
buy more... i have not loaded anything on here..but lime wire and yahoo
messanger and ebay stuff i use to sell on ebay with yet.. and it says i still
have 63% empty...then.. i decide fine.. ignore the no space errors and i go
to the next problem.. no sound in yahoo.. . then no profile... then limewire
stops working i can not even get it to load... how can i find a way to fix
all of this without reading six hundred posts...LOL please.. help..

I assume you backed it up to the only Hard Drive in the Laptop?? Some
Laptops have very small Gb HD's so that maybe the problem. With System
Restore grabbing plenty of Gb's you may not have any real HD space left?

Where did it say it was backing up to? If it was a DVD Drive then that may
be the problem.

What sound system does the Laptop use? Go to the Laptop manufactures web
site and download the latest Vista drivers

It sounds like you tried to back up to a restore partition. Most laptop
mftrs. create a restore image and put it on a special small partition on
the hard drive. You need to leave this special partition alone. Purchase
an external hard drive, usb or firewire, and put your backup there.

As for the Yahoo, sound, and Limewire problems, you didn't give enough
information to get help. You need to answer The First Question Of
Troubleshooting: what changed between the time things worked and the
time they didn't?

If you want more help in the newsgroup, please post back using a
different style of writing. I don't mean to hurt your feelings in any
way, but your post is very difficult to read. It helps to put your
details in numbered points, being as clear as possible since we can't
see your computer and don't know what you have or haven't done.

SORRY BOUT LAST POST I HAD HTML IN THERE..LOL I HAD PUT IN A SMILEY FACE AND
IT TOOK OUT HALF MY POST.. SO IM AMENDING IT HERE

FRENCHY your great .. i will try to be more precise in here.. its sad when
people have to sit and critasize instead of helping because they can not
offer nothing but critasizam.... and so in a sea of people who can only
complain.. its nice to see a good human.... now...

FIRST... i will start with limewire... i have been loading music for years..
its my thing.. its what i like to do... finding songs i have never heard
before from an artist i have loved for years.. MAKES MY DAY... lol like
online video game players feel for a good game even if they know its not
healthy for thier puter... so.. i must use file sharing to enjoy my
computer.. the whole idea here is.. ITS MY COMPUTER... so i should be able to
choose what i wanna do with it.. and lime wire after the first upgrade i got
with my puter.. stopped working. i have removed it .. reloaded it...
removed it... reloaded it... been thru every security thing i can find on
it.. and i still cant get it to work.. i click on the link... it acts like
its going to load for half a second then NOTHING......

SECOND YAHOO sound... i have sisters who live far away.... i have tons of
friends in washington state chat rooms.. and now.. i can not use sound... i
have tried loading the patch things they offer in some of the chat clients
like ytunnel.. but to no avail.... any ideas.. i know the sound mat is not
being supported but i have talked to other vista owners who have gotten it to
work...

THIRD... they back up.. was on the d drive.. and i have attempted to remove
it and it seems to be back to normal.. and then i backed it up on a dvd...

and finally the problems with emails or clicking on links.. or looking at
profiles.. i have a feeling its something to do with firewall settings .. but
i have them all set to the lowest possible level without just turning them
off.. and even with them turned off it did work soooo......

any of these questions but please if you are some old biddy guy who just
wants to complain.. just go ahead and skip my post.. do your great helping
somewhere else.. i dont want or need your critasizam... just wanted a lil
help from knowlageable people who are having some of the same problems

I know vista has some major bugs.. but.. all in all when the bugs are
worked out this should be a good op system.. so instead of just sitting in
here complaining i would like to just fix the problems.

Well there ya go, after reading your first post, I thought "Wow, I only
mentioned "Blond" because you did and I was trying to help". Your second
post said it much better!

I don't play with peer to peer software like Limewire because while you are
sniffing out other computers in the world, they are sniffing out yours. But
billions of people are happy doing that. If it is "your thing", then of
course you need to get it right.

If you have buddies with the same Limewire version software or via some
Limewire News Groups (probably of the alt. variety), are any of them running
this software on a Vista machine?? This may just be an incompatibility
problem to Vista and others will have the same and the software will (or
soon will) have a Vista capable version. There is a heap of other Peer to
Peer software out there, have you tried one of those?

Try also right clicking the exe file you run the Limewire with (or shortcut
on your desktop) and select RUN AS AN ADMINISTRATOR and if that doesn't
work, select the COMPATIBILITY Tab and select RUN AS XP.

Post your Laptop specs and model and I will look for a better sound driver.
Before you do that go into CONTROL PANEL and SOUNDS and make sure there is
not more than one device available for you to use. If there is, try the
other. Do you have sound in a game or just normal Windows sounds for
open/close or whatever? If you have sound in general, but not specific to
your Yahoo stuff, then this means the Microphone needs to be set up.

As far as clicking links not working, rather than lowering your security
settings, why not grab a free copy of Firefox and try that.

frenchy you rock.. im a old crusty blonde.. so no wonder we click... lol i am
trying all that you posted as i type..lol and smiling.. yes.. i have talked
to others who have vista.. and as of yet...none have figured out how to get
lime wire to work after the second upgrade....lol.... so .. it has something
to do with the first or second upgrade... im sure lime wire is loading some
crap on my lil puter i dont want.. but.. i have been working around it for
years making a vaste library i enjoy.... i work where i can listen to music
every day.. and the music of my choice is on my mp3 players. i have one for
my car and one for work... and thousands of great songs on them... and always
looking for new stuff... i am going to go thru my puter and get the
information your requesting tomorrow after work and will post it here.. and
