using search, locks me up???

Hi, I hope someone can help me, I have tried everything!
I about 2 weeks ago this started.

If I click on my search button, on my standard toolbar, internet explorer
locks up.
I get the window saying "Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and
needs to close".

So I close and send error report.
But It's still locked up, so I just either hit the "X" or right-click close...
Then I get the pop-up "The program is not responding".
So I end now, then is says "end nonresponsive program, Internet Explorer"

How can I fix this?
IE seems to be working fix, but I just can't search!

I have scanned for viruses- none found.
Used Spy-bot, Ad-Aware and Microsoft Anti-spyware- removed the spyware.
I have update windows XP and IE 6.0 Service pack 2.

What can I do to fix this?
Please help!

If no joy....

This may be caused by spyware/malware that's gotten installed on
your system. Use Ad-Aware, MSAS and/or Spybot Search & Destroy to remove
it.

If no joy, in IE go to Tools...Internet Options...Advanced tab, Browsing
section, uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions", click Apply, click
Okay, reboot. If that solves your problem, then more troubleshooting is
needed to find out exactly which program, or Browser Helper Object (BHO) is
causing this problem. You don't want to leave it at that, as some BHOs are
useful or necessary - like Adobe Acrobat for reading .pdf files or an
essential component of Norton AV. Get BHODemon -

Disable all items, and then gradually replace one or two at a time to narrow
down the culprit.

If all the above fails, then the problem could be something new that the
