User Accounts?

Hi there,

Two machines (1 x PC & 1 x Laptop) set up exactly the same: WIN XP Prof,
SP2 with latest updates; Both computers are my own and connected with
each other through a wireless ADSL Router with WEP(?) activated and a
key which is asked to join the wireless network.
The only accounts set up on each machine, is Deon as Administrator with
no password. The name of the PC is Deon-pc and the name of the Laptop is
Deon-laptop.

Both have internet access without any problem.

My problem is that my PC can Access my Laptop's shared folder perfectly,
but my Laptop cannot get access to my PC. When I try to browse to the
PC's Shared folder from my Laptop, a screen pops up for my Username &
password.
I have tried to type in my Admin name without a password without any
success.

I have read numerous tutorials which people have suggested, but I cannot
get this solved.

I have run the Network Connection Wizard on both of the machines - no
success.

I am now at the stage where I am prepared to protect each username with
a password and I have downloaded and installed Tweak UI as some have
suggested. Will this help me?

I know the answer to my question might be something very small which I
have overlooked, so please help me out here.

Regards,

Deon

Try adding a password to each account (the same one!) and see if that
works....

Hello,

When you installed Windows XP you put in a password for the true
administrator account, which is impossilbe to change unless you format and
reload the os. That is the password you need. If you can change the user name
on the screen that pops up from administratot to yours that might work alos

Absolute RUBBISH! Any User can change their own password - therefore the
built-in Administrator account can change it's password!

computergeek - am I happy to hear from ú! ;-)

I have the habbit of never to give enter a password after formatting and
intallation of XP.

I will now try to add passwords to both the admin accounts, which are both
"Deon".

I'll keep you all posted.

Thanx for your time.

Well you should do - it's elementary security.

Hi,

both computers now have the same username & password.

Still I cannot login from my Laptop to my PC to the shared doc's.

Is it not true that because computers have a shared folder, they are
supposed to be accessable to every PC on the network? That's the whole
purpose of the shared doc's folder.

Next shot ...
How can I gice access to my Laptop from my PC?
Say I want to give a user access to a folder but want to protect it with
a username & password that when a visitor wants access, the login screen
must pop up.

I do not have simple file sharing on any of the 2 computers.

Regards,

Deon
