When installing software on my user account, the software
icon appears on the desktop of all users. If I delete the
icon from another users desktop the icon is also deleted
from my desktop. Is there a way to have the icon appear
only on my desktop (and in Start, Programs)? Program
icons added to other user's desktops tends to add to the
clutter.

Move them from "%allusersprofile%\Desktop" and "%allusersprofile%\Start
Menu" to "%userprofile%\Desktop" and "%userprofile%\Start Menu"
respectively. You might have to localize the names for the mentioned shell
folders.

If you are installing again and there is the option, choose to install for
"Only me" instead of "All users".
