Use of CD/RW for File Storage

I have a new computer and I have encountered difficulty in using the CD/RW as a file for storage and retrieval as if it were a hard drive or floppy disk.
If I use any of (1) DLA software (download from HP), (2) Nero and (3) Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 and get the same error message, what does that mean?
Thanks
Leoram

There are two different error messages. They are, (1) Disk is full or too many files are open and (2) the file cannot be saved because it is a read-only file. In #1, I know the disk is not full because I tried it with only one little file and I made sure there were no files open at the time.
In #2, they were not read-only files but file were r/w as I checked them through properties.
However, I get error #1 more often than error #2.
Thank you.

Do you by any chance have BOTH Roxio & Nero installed at the same time?
Roxio is a pain & will really cause the PC to spit the dummy if you have,
uninstall it completely & stick with Nero.

CD/RW drives, if using a program like Nero INCD can be used in a manner
similar to hard drives or a floppy in that one can drag and drop files to
them.. BUT you have to use CDRW discs really and they have to be formatted
for use in this way by the INCD program prior to use.. even then, if you
were to load a text file off the formatted cd into Wordpad, you could not
then edit the file and resave it back to the cd, because files on a cd are
essentially read only regardless of how they got there..

CDRW discs, once formatted, can be used for storage until they are full
(obviously).. at that point, the cd will need to be formatted before
anything else can be sent to it..

CD-R discs can't be reformatted.. once they have reached capacity, that is
it

Check the properties for your burner and go to the Recording Tab. Ensure
that the box is unchecked that says "Enable CD Recording on this device".
XP's built in burning software might be conflicting with DLA.
