USB001 ports

I have been running XP pro for over a year with a parallel
printer.
I had to replace it with a new printer.
The new printer has an USB interface.
When installing the printer, I found that XP has lost its
USB001 Virtual printer port for USB.
How do we manually install this port back into XP without
reloading XP.
When I plug the USB printer in XP does not see it.
Printer type Epson 830U.
I have plugged this printer into another XP box and no
problems.
Many thanks in advance
David

The USB ports get created only when you attach a USB printer. By default,
there are none. This indicates a problem with either your USB port (I mean
the physical adapter - does it show up in the device manager ? Does it work
with other USB devices ?), or conceivably the cable. Some printers also need
to be powered up before the pnp detection works.
