Upgrading to Intrnet Explorer 6.0 from 5.0

Can not get on my bank's site (sign in) after home page.
After two hours on the phone with the bank and trying to
upgrade, I was told I need at least 128 cipher strength
and I only have 56 bit with my 2000 Professional.It was
working fine until a few days agao.What happened?
Can you help me upgrade to the needed strength and/or
version 6.0?

Without getting on my bank's site my money is not
accessible while in China, not a happy situation.
