Upgrade WinME to XP-Home

I've got a Gateway PC with WinME and was just given a WinXP Home Edition for Christmas. The box says "for PCs without Windows, or PCs with Windows 95 or earlier versions." Will I be able to upgrade with this version or will it have to be a clean install? A previous thread leads me to think I can upgrade with this version but I want to be sure before I open the box.

Thanks

Yes, you can upgrade with the full version. But look at this before you
start your upgrade:

That sounds like a retail full version and should be fine for doing an
upgrade.

That is a full retail version that will also do upgrades (though the
upgrade CD would have been cheaper, which is why this is not mentioned).
Run it from the existing system - it should Autorun, or run the Setup
program on it. Take Install and on the next page make sure you are on
Upgrade before proceeding
