Updating Office 2000 to SP1a

I cannot install this update - in the end it fails when tyring to run DATA1.msi
The KB says that this happens when Works is installed and gives instructions
how to proceed - uninstal Works and Office then clean up some files and
re-instal Office. But I don't have Works installed and there is only one copy
of data1.msi on my system
Now I am stuck in the middle of the upgrade.
Help !

You need to ask this in a more appropriate group, with less traffic, so that
there's a better chance someone picks it up who knows something about
setup-specific questions. that would be office.setup.
