Update of Defender failed

After trying to do a defnder update (manually and automatic) it says
"Definition Update 1.14.1408.8 for BETA Windows Defender (KB915597) not
installed"
without any visible reason.

When i follow instructions in KB915105 i get a windows defender message
saying: "Windows Defender was unable to complete the update: 0x80240022.
Wrong disk in drive. Insert %2 (volumenumber: %3) in drive %1" (last message
translated from german)

Defender Version: 1.1.1051.0
Engine Version: 1.1.1372.0
Signature Version: 1.14.1404.6

Steve,

I installed Defender yesterday, 04.25 and tried to update the definitions
but got the diskette error. I then ran through the reg key steps in the
KB915105 and still got the diskette error, then rebooted, then came in today
and tried again, same error. I checked BKB915105 again and ran wuaucpl.cpl
which shows everything greyed - automtic updates are not allowed due to
corporate policy. However, I have a Win2K SP4 machine, which has the same
Windows Update settings (all greyed out) where I installed Defender and it
ran the update successfully... Back on the laptop, I then tried reinstalling
Defender after clearing out C:\docs&set..\..\..\..\WinDef\DefUpds\ and still
get the error. I'm not sure how much of the windowsupdate.log you're looking
for but here are that last 24 lines:

Hi Steve,

I have exactly the same problem. I tried to email you the log file but the
mail was bounced!

Below are the two errors I see in the application event log. If you would
like me to send you a copy of the WindowsUpdate.log, ping me a copy of the
email address you would like me to use.

As i said in my original message, i tried this and got the second error
message in response. I sent my windowsupdate.log to Steve and hope it gets
thru to him.

It didn't work for me and I tried absolutely everything else. Then I
downloaded and reinstalled from the MS website and got Windows Defender
version 1.1.1347. This worked for me on 2 PCs, though not everyone is
convinced that this is the problem.

Tom Emmelot suggests in a post:
Go to Start/run.
Copy and paste this whole line: ( with ")
"C:\Program_Files\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe" -RemoveDefinitions -All
then:
"C:\Program_Files\Windows Defender\MpCmdRun.exe" -SignatureUpdate

I had lost patience before I got his post but it would be worth trying.

Uninstalled WinDef, downloaded the latest version, got rid of all leftovers
from previous version, and installed. This time it worked.

I used to get that same drive error but I uninstalled Defender and installed
the newest. I don't get that error anymore about the drives but instead I get
the error at the following thread.

Also, thru Windows Update, any defender updates fail to install. Here is
