Have a Compaq (2002), Xp Home Edition SP 2, 2 Ghz Pentium, PC Tools Anti Virus and Cable Modem connection.
Have not used CD or RW drives for 6 months plus. Popped in a CD yesterday
to copy some pictures and it caused the system to re-boot. Both drives cause this to happen. System works fine otherwise.
Any reasonable suggestions to correct this problem would be appreciated.

Multiple possibilities......

1) Data cable that connects both drives to the Mainboard has come lose.
This causes a data error responding in a restart. Check connection.

2) Power supply is beginning to fail. When the drives start to use the lasor it causes a power drain that your PSU can't provide..... causes a restart.
