Uninstall Win 2000

Need to uninstall or remove Win 2000 from HP 6623 Which
was running 98 SE prior. Has installed itself twice on HD
no Space left, but will not recognize modem; installed
new chameleon driver suggested by someone at one of these
newsgroups. Still didn't work. Cannot uninstall from CD
doesn't give that option. Would prefer to wipe drive and
get Win XP not XP 2004 or whatever the new one is! Cannot
get online at all have dial up access. Sending this
request for info from neightbors computer. TIA

If you want to remove Windows 2000 and wipe the drive and install a new
operating system, there's no need to uninstall anything.

Just install the new operating system and format the hard drive in the
process. Formatting the hard drive will delete everything that was on the
drive.

Hi Talon,

You can call H.P. for your upgrade as they may have
CD's best suited for your computer. Read all below
and make your own choice.

Go buy your XP Operating System. Depends on what
you do which one you need. There is XP Home, and XP
Pro. At any rate, go buy it. When you get ready to
install it, this what you do.

Remove all data that you want to some external
source. Remove any other files you desire, like
Address Book (.WAB files), Favorites (can export to
a file on the Desktop)(File->Import and
Export->Favorites->browse to Desktop-click
next->finish), and any other files you may want.

Reboot to change first boot device.
As the computer starts tap the delete key several
times as it is posting(first screens at startup)
Change the first boot device from "floppy" to
"CD-ROM" save and exit.
Place the CD in tray and "power down" (use power
button)
Start computer and watch to tap any key to begin
setup.
You will have the option to remove any partitions.
I would do so an set one "Basic" partition (NTFS).
The rest of the setup is to load you OS.
When you get through get online and get update SP
and hotpatches you need.
Download and set up I.E.SP1
Update your drivers.
At this point, I would create a Restore Point,
where you can restore your computer to this very
place(saves time, if you need to wax everything.
And it will not do away with your data)
Go get update on all of your drivers (all hardware
and MoBo BIOS)
Load apps and your "All Set"

Clear as mud, just take your time.
Be sure to buy a Full Retail version.
