Uncorrectable write error ???

J

James Turner

I have an Exchange Server which is reporting "Uncorrectable Write Error"
Events often resulting in the server falling over.

The Event details are :

Source : dmio
Type : Warning
Event ID : 37
Description : dmio:Disk Harddisk2 block 129050039 (mountpoint E:):
Uncorrectable write error.

Source : dmio
Type : Information
Event ID : 30
Description : dmio:Disk Harddisk2 write error at block 129050039: status
0xc00009a

The Server is Windows 2000 AS SP4 with Exchange 2000 SP3. It has a large
RAID 5 array for the Exchange databases. The data drive is configured as
Dynamic Disk.

In investigating this error, I have found references to "Uncorrectable Read
Errors" on the MS support site, but not Write errors. In fact if you enter
"Uncorrectable Write Error" into thr MS Support Search engine it returns no
results.

Has anyone seen this or heard of similar errors and point me in the right
direction for solving it?

Cheers,

James.

Download and run a diagnostic utility from the drive manufacturer's web
site.

Dave,

Thansk for your reply.

We have been through that process. In fact we have :

Run Diagnostics over the Physical Disks Subsystem
Replaced the Raid Controller and Cable to the Disks
Replaced the Motherboard of the server
Moved the data to a different disks, removed the RAID sets and reinitialised
them before moving the data back.

Short of rebuilding the server from scratch, I am very puzzled as to where
to go from here.

Any advice or help woulod be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,

James.

You might ask in the exchange groups. The next step might be checking the
database for corruption.
