Unable to uninstall the Messenger?

Hi. First: Sorry for my very bad english.

I have a system with a, form a company modified Windows Messenger 5.1.
I have removed the Messenger from the system. I have changed the
configuration in the sysco.inf file to make the messenger visible in
the Add/Remove software list.

I also run the RunDLL32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection
%windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove ti remove this.

After all I get the Message that the Messenger can't installed because
a older version is installed and need to be removed.
I also uninstalled via Add/Remove Components the Messenger and the
Messenger Service. Rebooted the system (after every step I done a
reboot) and installed again. Messenger 4.6 is on the system. But I need
version 5.0 or 5.1.

Also the try msiexec /x {C3A6819F-62D3-4750-AF1C-28206DDF2C2E} (no key
with messenger in it). Have somebody a idea?

Thanks a lot Maik

Sorry. The error is that a newer/same version is installed.

Your computer has a newer version of Windows Messenger 5.1 that the one
you are trying to install

This isn't the answer you want probably but - if I'm understanding you
properly - you got the computer from a company and now you own it?
(Otherwise they're going to be mad if you go around changing their custom
software I suspect.)

Anyhow, if you own the computer and you got it used then the only realistic
choice is to completely and totally wipe the system - you have no idea if
the computer is full of malware such as viruses or trojans and you don't
know if there are hidden files on the drives that could get you into legal
trouble.

This doesn't tell you how to fix your problem but assuming you do wipe the
computer and do a reinstallation/reformat you won't have to worry about the
messenger versions.

How to install or upgrade to Windows XP:

Before doing so you'll probably want to backup though:
