I have an existing presentation and I want to insert additional slides, I can
insert the slides but when I click on the save icon on the top left hand of
the screen the little circle shows something is happening then a dialog box
opens and says " press escape to cancel save" I want the edited prenentation
saved. If I try to exit powerpoint I get the dialog box " do you want to save
changes " I select yes and still powerpoint will not shut down. In order to
get out of powerpoint I need to restart the pc and I get the message
"powerpoint is preventing your pc from shutting down" I have to force the pc
to shut down and when I start it up again any chageg that I made to the
powerpoint presentation have been lost. what am I doing wrong?

It sometimes takes awhile to save a file as a PPT (97-2003) format, and it
displays the message box you're describing.

Just give it a second.

Or change your settings in Office Button | PPT Options so it saves as PPTX
(2007) format, which is usually faster.
