Unable to run Q818506.exe

IE6 hangs when accessing certain webpages. Hour-glass
syndrome with message "Internet Explorer Not Responding"
in title bar. Not spyware. Problem probably identified in
article Q818506.

Unfortunately, unable to run Q818506.exe. "This patch
requires IE SP1 to be installed". As far as I know, the
system already has IE SP1. Infact, system is running on IE
6.0.2800.1106.SPXP2.

Please help.

I had a suspicion that Q818506, even if successfully
installed, wouldn't cure the ailment. I read in Support
and Newsgroup that the patch Q867801 might actually be the
culprit. So I uninstalled it and, on their recommendation,
installed Q871260 which is supposed to be a revised
version of Q867801. Hourglass and 'not responding' problem
appears to be even worse! Now I am beginning to suspect
the XP patch Q814995. Uninstalling IE6 is such a
convoluted mess. Should not have applied all those patches
and hotfixes. But we did. And for what? Btw, check if your
IE version is 6.0.2800.1106.XPSP2 ?

To add up, am using Windows 2000 machine with IE Version:6.0.2800.1106 which
is updated with SP1;Q828750;Q818506;Q871260. I tried the same in another Win
2K machine which has IE Version:6.0.2800.1106; SP1;Q818506. Both hangs.
