Hello!
I can't install USB Canoscan N670U on XP home SP2
Canon support mailed me to use S331bfrx.exe fron Canon site
It expanded to a .txt and a .exe
The .exe run fast, without any notice
Then I connect the scan via USB. XP detects it, the name is correct
It shows up in the I/O list, without yellow mark
Via parameters, i can clic on test, a scan is done
But, when i try a scan within Word: nothing happen !
Nothing, no message, no wait, no freeze
So, i tried to install a Canon scan application fron the CanonScan CD
but when i select application install, i am rejected: no Twain layer !?
There are twain.dll and twain32.dll in c:/windows/
Any suggestion is welcome

twain.dll and twain32.dll are a part of Windows. They must be there, but
they are not the scanner Twain interface.

Word is not a Photo image program. Word may not has the camera and scanning
interface installed. (You can install if necessary).

Try scanning with a image editor such as Photoshop or the free Irfanview.

If you have a problem then, maybe the TWAIN driver is not installed
correctly.

You have to have a Twain data source for Word to scan.

The TWAIN data source is located in C:\Windows\Twain_32\Scanner folder and
Scanner DS if it is installed.

I never tried to scan from Word so for the hell of it I gave it a try.
When I chose Insert, Picture, From Scanner or Camera, it prompted me to
insert the original Office CD for some additional file to be installed.
Once I did this a dialog box came up that allowed me choose any scanner
or camera whose drivers were already installed and functioning on my PC
at an earlier time. After that my scanner driver opened and became
functional from within Word. I ran the scan but it was not available
even when I tried to insert the file where it was supposedly temporarily
stored according to my printer driver settings. Now I know why I have
never tried this before. I have to agree with the other post
recommending Irfanview. It’s free, simple and effective. Why not just
give it a try.

Sounds like there may me a system issue unrelated to the scanner. I
may just be something with the current user account settings. Tr
adding another user account through Contol Panel and User Accounts.
Give it admin rights. If that helps, then there is a problem wit
the other user account
