Unable to disable and delete Network Bridges

Hi (aka help)

Have created network bridges on my home edition of
windows xp for use of home networking. However I now
want to remove them but have been unable to.

When I right hand click to disable network bridge it
reports back:
It is not possible to disconnect at this time. The
connection is currently busy with a connect or disconnect
operation.

When I right-click on delete the network bridge it
reports back:
An unexpected error occured while configuring the Network
Bridge.

My VPN and DSL connection are both fine just want to
remove the network bridges.

Can anyone suggest anything? Any information
appreciated, been on support.microsoft.com and google
search. Feel more positive about this.
