Unable to complete updates

Hi,

After installing WD B2 and trying to update definitions I'm getting this
error:
Windows Defender was unable to complete the updates: 0x8024002b"

Already run a quick scan and launched the update from the Help About area.

System: XP - SP2
IE7 B2
WD: 1.1.1347.0
Engine version: 1.1.1303.0
Definition version: 1.0.0.0

Thank you for any help

Hello Bunk,

Can you go to Windows Update, do an Express scan, and apply all offered
updªtes?
http://update.microsoft.com

Once that is finished, can you verify the update installs? There are many
pre-requisite files which are needed from windows update and signature
update with windows defender will fail until you hªve these files.

I hope this post is helpful.

Followed all your advices, the definitions are updated and there are no more
updates to install.

Automatic update is still sending the same error

Thank you

Is this a home network, or a corporate LAN?

I get the same error message, currently on a corporate LAN, but it's the same
if I'm at home on DSL.

Reinstalled it, same error.

Are you also able to successfully update if you go to Windows Update?

Updates within the program go via AutoUpdate.

On a Domain-joined machine, AutoUpdate may be set to connect to a corporate
server--SMS, WSUS, SUS, which distiributes only "approved" patches. This
restriction continues even if a portable machine is connected off-site.

If the corporate network is using WSUS, the administrator can take steps to
enable Windows Defender definitions to be distributed.

The ultimate diagnostic is to try an update via help, about, check for
updates, and look at \windows\windowsupdate.log and snip out the very last
portion which relates to that update attempt. There should be language
showing that the machine is attempting to connect to a corporate server.
