unable to access specific websites

okay guys... here's a doozie... i'm official stumped...

this is the 4th computer now, not all at once... one here... then one at
another time...

this is the problem: for some reason, I am unable to access any
microsoft.com site, mcafee.com, or this is the wierd one, prudential.com...

There are probably more sites that I cannot access, but these are the ones i
tried which have failed. Other noticable sites, like yahoo and google work
just fine.

I already checked my hosts file, checked for viruses, checked adware,
everything that was found, was cleaned... but problem is still here!

These only happen to WinXP computers... and my client really needs his
computer back. Coincidentally, he works for prudential so i cannot give him
his computer back until that site works.

ANY IDEAS??? PLEASE HELP!!!

I'm no expert, but the following troubleshooting ideas
popped into my head:

It's easy to restrict site access in IE., via the security options.
Did the same user(s) have access to those 4 PC's at all?
Have you checked the security settings in IE to see
if the sites are restricted?

Also, have you tried to access the sites via another
web browser on those PC's? If you can see the sites
via Netscape, then you'll know it's an issue with IE,
which unfortunaltely, has been known to have issues.

I recommend Mozilla's Firefox for your clients browser.

Mark,

I appreciate the reply. Sadly, I already checked the things you recommended
and I am still getting the problem.

See, the problem isn't just with the website access itself, it also pertains
to the lower-level processes, like pinging.

And for mcafee, I am unable to update my program because I cannot access
mcafee.com.

Any recommendations???
