I have "automatic updates" explicitly turned off.

Windows XP keeps nagging me "Your computer might be at risk.
Automatic updates is turned off. Click this balloon to fix..."

Any way to suppress this?

Control Panel/Security Center/Change how the Security Center alerts me
on the left hand side panel at the bottom. Untick Automatic Updates.

Per M:
Control Panel/Security Center/Change how the Security Center alerts me
on the left hand side panel at the bottom. Untick Automatic Updates.

I think I have a different panel.

Mine has three radio buttons:

- Download updates... but let me choose when to install

- Notify me but don't automatically download or install

- Turn off automatic updates

I had the first one selected, changed it to the last one - in
the spirit of your advice.

If you see buttons instead of boxes you are looking at the Automatic
Update settings, not the alert me settings.

On the bottom left click:

Change the way Security Center Alerts me and take action.

Or a shortcut is:

Click Start, Run and in the box enter:

wscui.cpl

Click OK, then on the bottom left click:

Change the way Security Center Alerts me and take action.

Can't speak for the OP, but I prefer to be notified
and to examine the update queue before I let updates
happen. Amongst other things, I'll do a system save
before letting any substantial number of updates
happen. After a most annoying incident in the
medium past.

OPen the Security Center (Start - Control Panel - Security Center) and
on the left side at the bottom click where it says "Change the way
Security Center alerts me". You can turn off the alerts for Autoamtic
updates, your Antivirus and firewall by clicking to clear the check mark.

Took awhile, but it finally sank in.

I was looking for a button or something and ignoring the
"Resources" text.

Thanks Roy.

Thanks Jose'.

Thanks M.
