trying to get a clean install of Norton Internet Security on winxp

hi, hope someone can help.

This Dell 4300 PC with winxp (was upgraded from Win2000
ME) had Norton Antivirus 2004 on it but seemed to stop
working.
Could not get NAV to reinstall. Bought a CD version of N
Internet Security but after 5 calls to Symantec, have
given up on them. Lots of adware was present and
download.trojan virus was also present. I removed the
trojan. Bought "noadware" and it has removed all but 7
affected files, but it seems incapable of removing the
remaining.

have tried to install a fresh winxp, but it seems just to
overwrite parts, not all. have tried both options,
upgrade and advanced, neither made any difference. Still
can't install NIS and still getting popups.

Thanks! Lee

When doing a clean install, first backup your data, then
erase the partition and you can be sure no files will be
left behind.
You can do this in the Windows XP text portion of setup.
When it asks for a partition to select, delete the
existing partition and then install to the new partition
you create after.
