Hello All,

Ive been having problems upgrading my WinXP system to WinXP w/ SP1a. I used
a slipstreamed cd which I borrowed from my friend. I get an error message at
around 95% of the installation.

error message has a big red x at the left side, with the message saying:

"has not passed windows logo testing to verify its compatibility with winxp.

this software will not be installed. Contact your system administrator."

and an ok button, which when I press, it undos the changes made during
install.

I get the error message during the last phase of winxp setup, "Finalizing
Installation" and the progress bar indicates>saving settings, with 9 minutes
remaining.

I removed my lan card, sound card...with the video card, cdrw, mem, and hd
left. But the error still persists.

I did a search using microsoft's kb, and google, and all relate it to
installing ie6sp1. and the technote for the exact error message has been
removed. so im stumped. wierd thing is, I just updated my other system with
this same exact cd with no problems at all, and the process I did was I
attached that other pc's HD to this system and it upgraded fine with all
devices connected. but now i am unable to upgrade using my the systems
original HD.

any suggestions

John;
You should not use a friends CD unless your friends CD is identical to
your own.
In any case you should ONLY use your Product Key.

Why are you attempting to upgrade to SP-1 since SP-2 has been out for
several months?
You should install SP-2 instead:

Hi,

Actually we both own it, we chipped in to get winxp. anyway, we've
encountered too many issues with sp2, thats why im hesistant to upgrade to
sp2.

John;
You can not share one copy of Windows XP with two.
You need a copy for each computer.
One license, one computer, the way it has always been with all
Microsoft consumer operating systems since at least Windows 95.

The checklist in my other post is also applicable to SP-1 except where
obviously different.
Upgrading to SP-1 in no less likely to have issues than SP-2.
You need to prepare for both and researching in advance can go a long
way for a successful installation of SP-1 or SP-2.
