Updated IE 6 with all security patches now I can only browse 2-3 pages
before I get this message "This page cannot be displayed". It will allow me
to browse "https" prefixed web pages. A reboot or restart will let me
browse 2-3 more web pages, not to efficient.

IE6 is installed on a Win ME machine.

First eliminate any scumware.

Dealing with Unwanted Malware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

CAUTION!!!!! Before you try to remove spyware using any of the programs
below, download a copy of LSPFIX from any of the following sites:

(if your OS is Win2k or XP) The process of removing certain malware may kill
your internet connection. If this should occur, this program, LSPFIX, will
enable you to regain your connection.

I ran SpybotS&D& Adaware before installing the IE6 security updates referred
to in KB articles KB834707, KB837009 & KB833989. I also didn't have any
problem browsing with IE6 before I installed the security updates.

At your recommendation I ran SpybotS&D& Adaware again and guess what nothing
found!

I cannot check into the rest of your recommendations because I can't browse.

I've tried using Windows Explorere, MS Word and MS Excel to browse but have
the same problem. I can't even get a 3rd party browser.

Microsoft corporation's security patches caused this. It seem that this
problem is quite prevalent across all OS's. Is this the ultimate security
solution(no browsing no virus)? I'm lucky OE works.

I appreciate your help, what can I do without a web browser?

Thanks Brian Meyers

I have also tried this fix program (http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm) to no
avail.

It surprises me that as much as I see this error "This page cannot be
displayed" that 3rd party solutions are needed and that Microsoft doesn't
have a fix program that would diagnose and fix the problem.

What is your next suggestion.

i had the same problem it was because i installed service pack 2,i
uninstalled it and it sorted the problem

I too have been experiencing this problem. Is everyone using Norton
Internet Security????

I also have noticed that when the message is displayed that I can flushdns
and then registerdns which allows me to continue instead of rbooting.

Still trying to find a solution Microsoft isn't helping and neither is
Symantec. On my other computer similarly setup I do not have Norton
(Symantec) and have experienced NO problems.

I looking to see if others having this problem also are using "Norton
Security"?

B

It appears that I was to resolve the problem by re-installing Winsock
files on my WinME machine.
