"this page cannot be displayed"

I am having an inexplicable problem with internet explorer v6. I am running
windows xp at home. I keep getting "page not available"...although I am
connected. I connect by DSL.. my wife's computer upstairs is on a Cisco 675
router-modem which we share.

IE has been running fine until about a week ago. I must have made some
change with the settings...but I am now unable to browse ...the program
launches but I get "this page cannot be displayed" for every site all of
which I can connect to using opera 7. It must be my settings...I have it
set so there is no dialing..I am connected by LAN and the browser is opposed
to automatically check each time for web page changes

Thank you, it worked . . . AFTER I renamed the hosts file....

BTW: Am I breaching some form of protocol in replying, or replying to the
group as opposed to sender alone?
