"The page cannot be displayed"

I was not able to get a good installation of Norton Internet Security so
went to Symantec for help. Automated fix did not correct the problem.
Followed their instructions for uninstalling the program, step by step, even
though I did not know what I was doing.....(removing temp files and
something with config.). When I tried to reinstall Norton from the
download, I could not get it installed. I got the "the page cannot be
displayed" at the website.

Since that, any website that seems to be secure will only give me the page
with that note of "cannot be displayed". I can access my e-mail okay and
also use the internet okay. It must have been some change that I made
following the instructions but I do not know what it was or how I can
correct it.

Please help!!

In Internet Explorer -
1. Tools > Internet Options > Advanced
2. Scroll down to the Security Settings.
3. Make sure that the two boxes are checked that say
"Enable SSL 2" or "Enable SSL 3".
Try your secure sites.

Another thing you can try is:
Go to start/run
Type in: regsvr32 softpub.dll
Press Enter or click OK

What is the version of Norton Internet Security was installed in the system?
Contact Norton or visit their Web Site to get the removal tool of Norton
product and run it form the system. If you are using a cable or DSL
connection, start the system in safe mode with networking and see if you are
able to surf internet. You would be able to surf internet in safe mode with
networking.

Once the removal tool is run the files related to NIS may be removed from
registry and also from the services. Please follow the safety instructions
before running the removal tool.

Best of luck.

After the Symantec uninstall with SymNRT, I could not access any secure
sites but could get OE and surf IE. Followed instructions of kb813444 and
now can not access IE or OE at all. Shows no connection although Network
Connections shows my wireless properties as enabled. What now, oh Gurus???
My Frustration level is quite high by now but thanks for all and any
suggestions for correcting this new problem.....
