Thank you it solved my problem. Previously I couldn't move or delete a
message in VISTA's Windows Mail. After downloading your suggestion I was
able
to to delete the errant message.

Leave the email scanning option disabled.

Download and install this fix, with Windows Mail not running:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/941090

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other
folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or the 64-bit
version, try the 32-bit version first. Some common antivirus programs,
such as most of those from Norton or McAfee, or a recent one from
Trend, often cause such problems, although seldom immediately, so if
you have such a program, remember where to find the fix - you may
need it again.

Is there any chance that Microsoft / NcAffee / Norton will work together to
resolve this incompatibility issue sometime soon ??
All three are market leaders and this is a ludicrous situation that seems to
be affecting many people.

After uninstalling your non-compatible antivirus, download
and install a more compatible antivirus like the free Avast:

Even compatible antivirus programs will need to have their
email scanning option turned off. For more on this topic see

Microsoft probably won't. They are replacing Windows Mail with
Windows Live Mail:

I don't know about Norton and McAfee.

That's one that needs to be uninstalled to prevent the problem from
starting again, but once it's started there's a Microsoft download
you'll probably need to make the problem go away. Norton or
Trend antivirus can cause the same problem, so avoid them as a
replacement antivirus. Someone should reply later on where to
find the download and what antivirus programs don't cause
problems.

Which antivirus program? Some of them need to be uninstalled, not
just
be partially disabled.

I don't know. I get the impression there is not a whole lot of cooperation
between these companies.

I have the same problem now. It started as soon as I downloaded the
KB941090 Update. I had hundreds of messages stuck in my "Deleted" Folder and
one each in my "Outbox" and "Inbox" Folders. The download cleared that up
immediately, but now I can't move messages into folders. That started as
soon as I downloaded the Update. Any suggestions?

Windows Live Mail Desktop (Latest)

Moving message from one hotmail account to another, I get 2 error messages

First one says:
An unknown error has occurred.
Clicking detail shows:
An error has occurred.

Configuration:
Port: 0
Secure(SSL): 0
Code: 8004120b

Clicking OK on that window shows another error:

The selected message(s) could not be moved.
An error has occurred.

This happens when I move an email which was sent to multiple emails. Emails
sent to lesser number of people move without errors.

What antivirus programs do you have? Some of them need to be uninstalled,
not just disabled or partly disabled, to stop them from causing problems.

This often offers a temporary fix. Download and install it with Windows
Mail
not running:

Although it's labelled as for mail stuck in the Outbox, it also works in
other folders. If you don't know whether to use the 32-bit version or
the 64-bit version, try the 32-bit version first. Some antivirus programs
occasionally bring the problem back, so remember where to find the
fix, in case you need it again.

What antivirus programs do you have? Some of them tend to cause assorted
problems in Windows Mail even if part of all of the program is disabled.

Email scanning should be turned off in any anti-virus. Also exclude EML
files from the scan. It provides no
protection not provided by the regular resident protection.
Besides that, McAfee and Norton are not compatible with Windows Mail and
Outlook Express and should be uninstalled.
