Temporary Internet Files

Under the Temporary Internet Files sub-folder, which I
cannot delete because it is a system requirement, there
are apparently a sizable number of files placed there by
the Internet. Specifically, they're in a sub-folder within
Temporary Internet Files called Content.IE5. They show up
during a virus scan but are not shown in Explorer, hence I
cannot delete them. I would like to locate and delete
them, and would appreciate any suggestions offered. Thank
you.

If you open internet options, settings, delete cookies, then delete files and
chk the box all off-line content youll be deleting and view them if you wish.
For all other temporary internet files (usually set-up files that are no longer
needed),go to run,type: %temp%
Then go to edit, select all, delete all...
The only ones left on os will be active x files from the internet.

Mike,
I have an extremely long thread going on this same subject and
so far we have not fixed it... Try this:, Open IE and go to TOOLS/
INTERNET OPTIONS and on the General Tab window, click the SETTINGS
button... A new window will appear and click VIEW FILES button and see
if you see the files there... I would like you to do this and see your
results.
That appears to be the only way I can access those files myself.. Somehow,
I can't access them from EXPLORE or from CONTROL PANEL/INTERNET
OPTIONS window either.. David Candy is working on this problem with
me and actually, I am glad to hear that somebody else has the same problem.
I think some of the MVP's were beginning to think I was nuts or something
about what I was posting... Please post back with your findings as I
mentioned
above..

I notice too there are always files that keep sticking in that place. What I
do is the following.

Open a command prompt and make sure the the Content.IE5 is the current
folder. Then use 'attrib -r -s -h /s /d' to make everything normally visible
in Explorer. You can then delete the subfolders present there in Explorer.
You could alternately delete the subfolders and its content from command
prompt.

Mike;
"system requirement" is so much BS.
The files contain Desktop.ini's.
Those are considered System Files.
I delete these damn things several times a day,
Try to delete again. Answer Yes and Yes To All

In Windows Explorer, select the Temporary Internet Files directory (folder)...

In the ADDRESS box, which shows the full path (if enabled), add this to
the path...

Content.IE5

This will enable display of the subdirectories.

Don't know why the MVPs are trying to help you with this "problem", since
there is no problem. This is normal behavior. You are not supposed to be
able to see those files, it's that simple. There is also a very simple way
to see and delete the files. Log on with another account that has admin
rights, you can then just delete the entire temporary files folder. Windows
will re-create a new one when you log back on to the other account.

Temp Internet Files is a special - it has an internal structure of the
Content.IE5 with four or more subfolders, and an efficient index, so as
to provide for faster access. In Explorer this is displayed as if it
were a simple one level folder. Leave the structure alone; empty the
folder if necessary at Control Panel - Internet Options, click 'Delete
files'. While there I would take Settings and reduce the space allowed
which is often excessive and leads to troubles - 50MB should be plenty
