Trying to install a network scanner program and windows xp
pro reports that tcp/ip is not installed on the computer.
Currently the pc in hosting the internet for three other
pc's and network prints as well. For some reason xp is not
reporting an active tcp/ip connection. It is of note this
machine has been upgraded from windows 98 using the win xp
pro upgrade.

Steve,

I to am having the same problem - we have 3 computers at
home all windows XP running through a wireless router.
last week i came home to the message: "TCP/IP network
transport is not installed". 1 day earlier I had no
problem using the net or router. I spoke to technical
support for my router and they told me that it is a
windows XP specific problem. I also found out that such
an error shouldnt occur based on the fact that the TCP/IP
network transport is pre-installed in XP. Any advice on
how to solve will be very helpful as I can't find anything
on this website to really help me. I have tested the
TCP/IP staus using the ping command and found that the
DHCP test did fail but my knowledge of how to resolve that
issue is pretty poor to say the least. My computer is a
pre-installed XP and I have no problems using the network -
it seems to be a specific XP problem in relation to my
desktop. Any advice?

Cheers
Scott

Paranoia comes from experience - and is not necessarily a bad thing.
