TCP/IP for Win98 is missing

I am running a small network and my IBM Thinkpad has lost the TCP/IP
protocol. I DO NOT have the install CD, this was an OEM/ company install. I
cannot install TCP/IP protocol in the Network control panel, because the
system cannot find the TCP/IP software on the drive to install. Where can I
get a copy of TCP/IP that will work on Win98? I have looked everywhere,
including Microsoft support, downloads, etc. thanks,

If this was an OEM install (prebuild) of Windows 98, you
should be able to find the install files on your hard
drive at c:\windows\options\cabs

Otherwise, the installation of the networking component
is not license specific, meaning you can borrow anyones
Windows 98 CD (make sure your using the same version..ie:
sencond edition) and install it from that.

Good Luck

Scott: here is what I have in that location: msnet32.dll; schannel.dll;
snmp (application but does not launch); snmpapi.dll; vip.386 (will not
launch, asks for application to run it; vserver.vxd (ditto vip.386);
xenroll.dll; I am showing all files, including hidden. The Options folder
only has the Cap folder in it. Bob

Another common place to put the cab files is C:\Win98. If you don't have
the cab files on your hard drive, then do as Scott suggested and borrow
a friend's Win98 cd, making sure it is the same version as yours (First
or Second Edition). If you don't have a friend with a Win98 cd, I'm
sure a local computer professional can do this for you.

Microsoft doesn't make Windows 98 components (like TCP/IP) available
for downloading.

Search the hard drive for files named "win*.cab". If it finds them,
point to the containing folder when Win98 asks for the CD.

If that doesn't help, answer each CD prompt by telling it to look in
C:\Windows. If the desired file isn't there, tell it to look in
C:\Windows\System. You might have to repeat those steps for each
file.
